Joyce Koh in the upcoming talk will discuss her book titled Design Thinking for Education: Conceptions and Applications in Teaching and Learning. Joyce has proposed that the Design Thinking can support Teachers to facilitate students 21st Century Learning. This session uses research conducted with school and higher education teachers in South-East Asia and New Zealand to examine the kinds of teacher design competencies and challenges faced when designing 21st Century Learning experiences. The audience will be invited to brainstorm plausible solutions for enhancing teacher competencies for designing 21st Century Learning experiences.
The move online has triggered many challenges, not least at the intersection of individual design learning and distributed digital classes. Good subject coordination is ‘behind the scenes’ work underpinning meaningful learning experiences. This presentation will unpack how this element of the BEL+T DIAgram can support learning design and its conversations.

Jorge Frascara will discuss his 2007 journal article titled Hiding Lack of Knowledge: Bad Words in Design Education published in the Design Issues: Volume 23, Number 4. In the article Jorge explored relationship between academic practices of “design research” and training future designers. He has suggested that “master-apprentice” model is limiting how academics conceptualise design education and subsequently what sort of designers are 'produced' by the Higher Education institutions.
Professor Ingvild Digranes in her talk titled Outsourcing Design Education to External Creativity Programs – a Non-sustainable Solution will explore how outsourcing of Art and Design education might erode national repertoire of values. She will use The Cultural Rucksack in Norway to illustrate this proposition.

Rossana Bastías Castillo will discuss the use of the Design Literacy as an analytical frame to explore participatory Design carried out to implement a social program for older adults. She suggests that literacy in Design would be a necessary component for the configuration of socially situated responses in the implementation of social policies and projects.
