Joyce Koh in the talk will discussed her book titled Design Thinking for Education: Conceptions and Applications in Teaching and Learning.
Joyce has proposed that the Design Thinking can support Teachers to facilitate students 21st Century Learning.
21st Century Learning refers to the learning experiences that foster 21st Century Skills. This session explores the perspectives of Design Thinking articulated by the major theorists Herbert Simon, Donald Schön, and Nigel Cross, and frames how Design Thinking can be considered within 21st Century Learning. Drawing upon research conducted with school and higher education teachers in South-East Asia and New Zealand, the session discusses the competencies that teachers need to design 21st Century Learning and the challenges they face. The audience will be invited to brainstorm plausible solutions for enhancing teacher competencies for designing 21st Century Learning experiences.

Joyce Koh is an Associate Professor at the Higher Education Development Centre of the University of Otago in New Zealand. Her research interests are in the areas of design thinking in education, teacher professional development in educational technology, and higher education educational technology development. She has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles in SSCI-listed journals and currently serves as a Senior Associate Editor of the Asia Pacific Education Researcher.
